Quality education is how a nation grows

WHY THIS MATTERS

Education leading the way

Every strong economy is first built in its classrooms. Research from the World Bank and OECD consistently links a country’s growth to the quality of its schooling, not just how many children attend. Nations that changed their prospects did so by investing steadily in their children’s learning.

India has chosen the same path. The National Education Policy 2020 commits to raising public investment in education to 6% of GDP and to shifting the system’s focus from quantity to quality. As India works toward a $5 trillion economy, that shift is essential. It is the foundation for everything else

Focus

Getting into school was the first step. Learning is the next.

India has achieved near-universal primary enrolment. UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring Report 2024/25 recognises this progress, and it is clear about what comes next: stronger foundational literacy and numeracy, better support for teachers, and committed leadership in every school.

Quality takes sustained investment in teachers and the everyday conditions in which children learn. For many families, that quality still comes at a price. A school may be nearby, but a good school may not be affordable.

Closer to home: Vidyaranyapura

Schools nearby. Opportunity still uneven.

Vidyaranyapura is a lively, mixed-income neighbourhood in north Bengaluru with more than 23,000 residents. Government, private and CBSE schools all serve the area. But having schools nearby does not mean every family can access the education it wants.

Across the wider Yelahanka zone, BBMP data identifies 5,856 households as low-income, more than one in four.* For these families, fees, uniforms, books and meals can shape where a child studies and how far they go.

Akshaya Vidya

Quality education, without the price tag.

Akshaya Vidya is a free school run by the Great India Talent Foundation. Every child receives schooling, nutritious meals, uniforms and learning materials at no cost to their family. What a child achieves should depend on curiosity, effort and support, not on what their parents can pay.

From 2027, Akshaya Vidya will welcome 1500+ children into classrooms built for learning, confidence and aspiration.

The Challenge We Address

Bangalore's growth story hides a quieter truth: proximity to opportunity does not guarantee access to it. For many urban low-income families, the cost of quality schooling — fees, uniforms, transport, materials — creates the same exclusion that geography and infrastructure create elsewhere in India. Akshaya Vidya exists to close that gap.

Who We Serve

Akshaya Vidya will serve children from Bangalore's underserved urban communities — families for whom quality education remains structurally out of reach, not by distance, but by circumstance.
